Boxing Glove Padding Explained: Foam Layers, Protection and Product Design
Padding is one of the most important parts of a boxing glove. It affects impact absorption, glove shape, feel and the product's intended use.
Why foam construction matters
A glove can use multiple foam layers with different characteristics. The purpose is to create a controlled combination of protection, structure and feel rather than simply making the glove as soft as possible.
Different training purposes
Training, sparring and bag work can place different demands on a glove. The padding profile should therefore be selected alongside the intended use, weight and hand compartment.
Other construction details matter
Foam cannot be considered in isolation. The shell material, inner lining, thumb construction, cuff and stitching all contribute to the finished glove.
For custom brands
When developing a private-label glove, specify the intended use first and discuss padding construction with the manufacturer. Sampling allows the brand to evaluate the result and make adjustments before production.
Boxing Forge works with brands on custom glove specifications, including material, padding construction, weight, closure, colors and branding.
