Choosing a Boxing Headguard: Fit Questions to Ask Before Buying

Choosing a Boxing Headguard: Fit Questions to Ask Before Buying

A headguard needs more thought than choosing a matching colour. Before buying, tell your coach what you plan to use it for and check the requirements of your gym or event.

Start with the exact model

Read the manufacturer's sizing and fitting instructions. Compare the measurement requested with your own measurement; a familiar letter size from another brand may not transfer. Ask about the adjustment system and the coverage of the model you are considering.

Check it with your coach

Once fitted according to its instructions, review visibility, comfort and movement with your coach before contact work. A headguard that shifts or distracts you needs attention. Do not try to solve poor fit by accepting excessive pressure or modifying the padding.

Keep the limits clear

No headguard makes boxing injury-free, and it should never be treated as a guarantee against concussion. Supervision, appropriate training and the rules of the activity still matter. Check the equipment regularly and follow the maker's care and replacement guidance. If you are ordering a coordinated set from Boxing Forge, confirm the headguard size separately from the gloves and protector; matching colours do not establish matching fit.
