Buying Focus Mitts for a Gym: Let the Coaches Test the Fit

Focus mitts can look almost identical in a catalogue and feel quite different when a coach puts them on. If your team will use them throughout the week, their feedback belongs in the buying decision before you order a full batch.

Describe the sessions first

Tell the supplier how the mitts will be used and by whom. Are they intended for short technique sessions, general group classes, or a particular coach's pad work? Ask which model is designed for that use and request its actual dimensions and construction details.

A product name such as “professional” does not replace a useful specification. Compare the hand compartment, fastening arrangement, target area and stated materials. If a detail is important to your coaches, put it in writing.

Give more than one coach a voice

Where possible, review a physical sample before a bulk purchase. Coaches with different hand sizes may experience the same mitt differently. Ask them whether the fit is secure, whether adjustment is straightforward, and whether anything shifts during an appropriate, supervised assessment.

Separate personal preference from a product concern. “I prefer a smaller target” is different from “the fastening does not remain secure.” Both observations are useful, but they may lead to different decisions.

Inspect the parts a photograph can hide

Check seams, lining, closures and the consistency of the pair. Ask the supplier for the relevant care instructions and any restrictions on use. Do not infer durability or protective performance from how thick the padding looks in an image.

Keep notes on the approved sample, including its product reference and any changes requested. A reorder should refer back to that record rather than asking for “the same pads as last time” without further detail.

Plan the quantity around coaching hours

Consider simultaneous sessions and the time needed for care between uses. A set that suits one coach may not be the best shared option for an entire staff team. Let the trial inform whether you need one consistent model or a small, clearly identified selection.
