Hand Wraps and Boxing Gloves: Check the Fit Together

Hand Wraps and Boxing Gloves: Check the Fit Together

The glove you try on with bare hands may feel different when you wear your usual wraps. Treat the two as a combination when checking a purchase for training.

Learn the wrapping method in person

Ask a qualified coach to show you the method appropriate for your training and wraps. A written shopping guide cannot check how your hands are wrapped. If a wrap causes discomfort, numbness or tingling, stop and have the fit assessed rather than hiding the problem inside a glove.

Use the intended training setup

Follow the glove maker's instructions and review the fit with the wraps you actually intend to wear. Check that you can make the required hand position comfortably and fasten the closure correctly. Do not assume that moving to a heavier glove automatically solves a fit problem.

Keep the routine repeatable

Store wraps so they can dry after use and clean them according to their instructions. Inspect the fabric and fastening before training. England Boxing includes protective hand bandages in its safety guidance; your own coach and governing body should guide the requirements for your session. When asking Boxing Forge about glove fit, mention your training use and that you will be wearing wraps.
