OEM vs ODM vs Private Label Boxing Equipment: What Is the Difference?
OEM, ODM and private label are often used interchangeably, but they describe different ways of working with a manufacturer.
OEM manufacturing
With OEM, the brand provides the design or detailed specification and the manufacturer produces the product to those requirements. This is suitable for brands with their own product concept or technical pack.
ODM manufacturing
ODM uses a manufacturer's existing design or production capability as the starting point. The brand can customize selected elements such as colors, materials, branding and packaging.
Private label
Private label is focused on selling a manufacturer's product under the customer's own identity. The manufacturer handles production while the brand controls its logo, labels, presentation and retail strategy.
