A Pre-Sparring Equipment Check to Discuss with Your Coach

A Pre-Sparring Equipment Check to Discuss with Your Coach

Getting your kit out before the session gives you time to spot a problem without feeling rushed. Use this as a conversation starter with your coach, not as permission to spar.

Bring the required equipment

Ask the gym what is required for your particular session. Confirm the gloves and any required headguard, mouthguard, wraps and body protection. Requirements can depend on the activity and participant; copying another person's bag is not a reliable checklist.

Look for changes

Review fastenings, visible seams, lining and padding for damage or changes from normal condition. Check that your own items fit as intended and that nothing has been mixed up with a clubmate's equipment. Set questionable gear aside and ask the coach before using it.

Let the coach make the training decisions

An equipment check does not establish that sparring is appropriate or safe for you that day. Supervision, matching and the nature of the session need their own assessment. Do not use extra padding as a reason to accept uncontrolled contact. Keep a note of anything that needs replacing and check the specification before purchasing. When asking Boxing Forge about a replacement, identify the exact product and the training use so the question can be answered clearly.

Browse Boxing Forge equipment, or ask us about a specific product before ordering.
